I mention often how important relationships are to our overall health and wellness.
If you have kids, your relationship with them is VERY important – both to you AND to them.
It is SO easy to get caught up in the day-to-day rush of life, and before you know it a week has gone by, a month or even a year. And what do you have to show for it? I’m sure there were some highlights, some fun events, but how about the every day? Do you even remember most of it? Do your kids?
One way to change that and to grab some of those fleeting moments is to make a special effort to spend one-on-one time with your kids every week.
I know you are busy, but remember that these days will be gone before you know it, so please accept this week’s challenge and go schedule at least a half an hour on the calendar for each of your kids THIS week. Even if all you do is play board games or read stories together, it’s that individual attention that matters to them – makes them feel important. Remember that kids learn more by example and by slowing down and spending time with them, you are showing them how much they matter.
Even if you don’t get to this challenge every week, try making it a habit to slow down and spend that individual time a couple of times a month.
At the end of the year, both you and your children will have dozens of fun memories, they will know you care enough about them to spend special quality time with them – and you’ll have a closer relationship with your kids. Isn’t that what we all desire?
