How often do you see something in a magazine or on TV and think to yourself – “that looks cool – I’d like to try that.”   I do it ALL the time.

This week I challenge you to learn something new! learn something

Why?

Learning something new challenges your brain – which is a great way to stay healthy and sharp.  Your brain is like any other organ in your body – the more you use it, the better it performs.   Learning something new also gives you a terrific sense of accomplishment.   For many of us who are no longer in school, we don’t get the opportunity to learn new things regularly, so we don’t get that frequent sense of feeling proud of ourselves – learning something new is a great way to boost your confidence and improve your self-image.  Feeling good about yourself  will then turn around and boost your happiness – a nice little chain of events!

What?

This is where it gets fun.  ANYTHING GOES!  It can be something you accomplish in one hour or maybe something big you just get started learning this week.  Need some ideas?

  • learn a new sport
  • learn a new dance move
  • learn a craft (knitting, needlework, scrapbooking, painting, jewelry making, pottery etc.)
  • learn a new language
  • learn to play a musical instrument
  • learn to cook something new, or bake, or can
  • and the list goes on and on

How?

Once again, the sky’s the limit here – you can take a class, learn from a friend, check out YouTube videos, read a book, take an online class, attend a lecture or presentation, take lessons or just give it a go on your own!  Do a quick internet search on “learning how to _____” and I’m sure you’ll find plenty of resources.

What are YOU going to learn this week?  Share in the comments so we can cheer each other on!  I plan on learning how to make rubber band bracelets – it’s nothing spectacular, but my kids would love for me to create with them!
