Even after all the talk about making small changes to improve your world this month, perhaps you are still feeling overwhelmed – like even adding small changes are too much.  That there just isn’t enough time to even start to create those changes.  Is this you?Planet Earth . . .Modelled 1

I know between work, travel and family obligations, I often feel like I don’t have even a minute to sit down, let along create a change in my life.

This week, I’m going to share my favorite stress release (and time creating) tip of all:  Don’t overload yourself!!!

Much as we’d like to create more time, there are only 24 hours in a day and only one of you.  You can’t create more time.  So instead of cramming everything you want to do in 24 hours, why not figure out how much time you actually have and THEN plan accordingly.

My example:  I have 24 hours, and I know I do best with 8 hours of sleep, so I subtract that and now I’m down to 16 hours.  Pull out another 8 hours for work each day and I’m down to 8 hours.  I like to take an hour and a half in the morning to get ready for the day, get the kids off to school, journal and do some writing.  Add another 30 minutes for exercise and I’ve still got 6 hours left.  Estimate 2 hours for driving kids around, meals and cleaning, now I’m down to 4 hours.  I’ll pull out an hour of that for bedtime routines/stories/ etc. and I have 3 hours left.  I like to give myself a 2 hour buffer (because let’s face it time seems to disappear often!) and that gives me an hour each day to read, create, watch TV, visit with friends, etc.  They key is not to plan to do more than I can in that hour – in other words a typical day isn’t the day to decide I can completely clean out my closet, train for a marathon (not that I plan on doing that anytime soon), create an entire scrapbook, etc.  Or if I decide I really want to do one of those things, then something else in the day has to be eliminated.  If I only have an hour, I only have an hour – it makes no sense to try to do more as the time simply isn’t there!

Obviously everyday can be different, but the key is that you can’t create new hours in the day,  and you can’t do more than can be accomplished in the time you have.  Period.
