Ever found yourself feeling down? Or like things just aren’t as good in your life as you wish they were?
I think everyone gets those feelings once in a while. One thing I like to suggest to clients who are feeling bad about where they are is to start a gratitude journal. You may have read this recommendation before – especially if you like to read blogs – I know I’ve seen it at various times. I’ve even seen challenges to do this.
But . . . it can seem daunting. If you are already stressed or down, adding something else to your “to-do” list can feel overwhelming.
Every year in December I make a photo wall calendar for myself (and the grandmas cause it’s just as easy to order three as one!) with pictures of the kids. Instead of a formal gratitude journal, I jot down something I am grateful for each day of the month. It’s easy, it’s right in front of me daily (so I don’t forget and I can look at it when I need a lift), and at the end of the year, what a cool reminder of my wonderful life (with pictures of my family to boot!).
I really encourage you to give this little practice a try. I know you can find SOMETHING to be grateful for each day, and all those little positive thoughts will snowball – before you know it, you’ll be in a much more positive frame of mind.
Interested in some more research on the benefits of feeling grateful? Here are a couple of my favorite books that touch on the topic:
- The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin
- 29 Gifts by Cami Walker
- One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp

Need some more pep in your step? Try Peppermint Essential Oil – our oil of the month – it’s one of my FAVORITES! One drop has the same amount of peppermint as 28 cups of peppermint tea – that’s some strong stuff! And when I need some extra energy, I am grateful for the lovely smell! Learn more about it HERE or get your own bottle HERE.
