Is it automatic for you? Is it on your daily to-do list? Or is it just something you do “if you get to it?”
If you truly want to make exercise the important part of your life that it SHOULD be, I suggest you formally put it on your schedule every day! That doesn’t mean you have to spend an hour at the gym every day, but it DOES mean you should do SOMETHING exercise related daily. That’s the only way to make exercise a non-negotiable part of your daily routine.
But, how to get into that mindset?
At first, try something simple like writing down “exercise” on your daily calendar – on EVERY day of the month. Then you’ll get the satisfaction of checking it off when you’ve completed it. Another suggestion might be to simply place a little check mark each day of the month that you DO exercise – you’ll be able to see at a glance if you are falling by the wayside.
Want to make it more formal?
How about a timer on your computer or phone to remind you to take a workout break? Or find a fun new app for your phone where you can record your workouts and have a bit of accountability (I’ve enjoyed using RunKeeper in the past).
If you are like me and need to get it done first thing in the morning (before the day gets away from you), put your workout clothes right beside your bed – or toothbrush, and don’t get ready for the day until your workout is complete.
Do you have a clever way to remind yourself to get your workout done each day? I’d love to hear it in the comments – I’m always searching for new ideas and suggestions for myself and my clients, so please share!
