This year I’m going to focus on some ways to make Halloween fun (and stress free for YOU).  Even if you don’t have kids, or don’t celebrate Halloween I bet you can implement some of these ideas.

  1. Dress up.  I know it sounds like a lot of work, but it doesn’t have to be.  Just stick a headband with cat ears and draw some whiskers on your face.  Add a Halloween t-shirt and you are good to go.  Just a few minutes but your kids will love it.  Feel like an idiot?  Who cares – your kids think you are fun and awesome and isn’t that what really matters?
  2. Serve something simple and HEALTHY if you plan on going out trick-or-treating.  Everyone’s tummies will be thankful to have some real food in them before they start “sampling” the candy (not that I would ever do that).  Try something easy like homemade pizza, a simple crock pot meal or pasta dish.  If you go out early, be sure to fill the kids up with a healthy snack – check out this post for some ideas.  And remember, one night of candy is NOT going to hurt anyone long-term!
  3. Decorate your house. Once again this doesn’t have to be extravagant – use the artwork your children make or check out the dollar store for inexpensive decorations.  I always hit up the nicer stores after Halloween and pick up a few fun and unique items for pennies!
  4. Start the day off with something special.  How about pumpkin pancakes or muffins?  Heck you could make the muffins a few days ahead of time and serve them on the 31st for breakfast with hot apple cider.  Yum!
