Halloween is next week!  Scared of all the candy your kids will receive?

That’s a lot of chocolate!

I know I am!

If you’ve been reading my blog for any length of time, I’m sure you know that I do believe in moderation – I’m not going to go all crazy if my kids eat candy sometimes.  HOWEVER, the sheer volume we collect on Halloween is a bit daunting.

How do you eliminate most of it without causing too much pain?

1.  Agree with your kids ahead of time as to how much they can eat on Halloween, and how much they can keep.

2.  You might consider freezing some of the chocolate – it will last a very long time in the freezer and can be doled out a piece at a time.

3.  Check with your local dentist or orthodontist – many of them will buy back candy by the pound and send it on to our troops.

4.  If your dentist doesn’t participate, trade your kids for some money or a gift and send it by December 5th to:

5.  Consider donating it to a local shelter – call first to ask if they are interested.

To save yourself money (and more headache with extra candy), check out the after Halloween sales and stock up on spider rings or some other cute little Halloween trinket to stock up on.  It’s a nice change of pace from the candy, and you can feel good about passing it out next year.
