This month was another heavy fiction month – and that’s okay as there were some really good ones!   All of them can be found in my Amazon list HERE.  Below is a short summary of my favorites:

books to read

Sneak peek of November books!

The Sea of Tranquility: A Novel by Katja Millay was a very engrossing book.  It started out as a typical teenager angst type scenario, but you quickly began to understand there was so much more to Nastya.   Even though most of the book revolved around a small set of teenagers, the characters were very well written with a lot of depth.  I was really cheering for them all by the end.  This was really a very lovely book (and would make a great movie!).  My rating 4.5 out of 5.

Rules of Civility: A Novel by Amor Towles was a little tough to get into at first, but once I found the flow, I discovered that there were so many layers to the characters and the story.  On the surface it is a simple story about a year in one women’s life back in 1937 (which that aspect alone was fascinating to follow), but once the story ended, I realized it was also a book about the choices we make in life and how simple, daily decisions can and will change our life path.  My rating:  4 out of 5

&
The Shadow Children, the Complete Series: Among the Hidden; Among the Impostors; Among the Betrayed; Among the Barons; Among the Brave; Among the Enemy; Among the Free by Margaret Peterson Haddix was recommended to me by my daughter.  I actually have only completed the first book (Among the Hidden (Shadow Children #1), but am in the midst of the second in the series.  It’s been very fun to have a fifth grader who loves to read as much as I do.  I’ve enjoyed reading her recommendations and having some terrific discussions together on our weekly dates.  In the series, the shadow children are 3rd children.  It is illegal to have more than 2 children, so anyone who has a 3rd must keep the child in hiding.  For an adult, these are obviously quick and easy reads, but still have enough meat in them to enjoy.  My rating 4 out of 5.

So what were YOUR favorite books last month?  I think November will hold more non-fiction (as I’ve already finished two so far!), but I’m hoping to enjoy a few good novels too.  Share your favorites in the comments please!
