Make a Meal to Share! Crock Pot Beef Stew

Along with our theme of doing good this week, I’m sharing a super easy Beef Stew that is MADE to share.  As you are making it, simply dump half the ingredients in your crock pot and the other half in a zip lock freezer bag.  You’ll end up with dinner for your family and a nice dinner you can share with someone else – with NO extra work on your part.  How easy is that?

Crock Pot Beef Stew – for sharing!

Each batch serves 3-4 (add a salad and bread to round out the meal)

One 3.5 t0 4 pound chuck roast

1 large sweet potato

4-5 red potatoes

2 green onions

4 cloves garlic

1 sprig rosemary

2 T arrowroot powder (or whole-wheat flour)

2 T soy sauce

1 T honey

2 cups vegetable stock (or any other stock would work)

2 cups fresh squeezed orange juice

Sea salt and freshly ground pepper

Step one:  Cut the roast in half and place half in your crock pot and half in a freezer bag.

Step two:  Cut the potatoes into bite sized pieces and place half in the crock pot and half in the freezer bag.

Step three:  Mince the garlic and slice the green onion and divide evenly between the crock pot and freezer bag.

Step four:  Add the rest of the ingredients except for the sea salt and pepper.  Continue to divide each ingredient in half with half going in your freezer bag and half in the crock pot.

Step five:  Cook the stew in the crock pot on low for 8 or more hours or on high for 4-5 hours.  Double bag and label the stew in the freezer bag and either deliver to someone who could use a homemade dinner or place in the freezer to share at a later time.

This is actually a great technique for any crock pot meal.  Just place a freezer bag next to your crock pot and double the recipe as you go.  Perfect for a second meal for your family later in the month on a busy night or for a meal to pull out of your freezer to share for that next new mom, someone who is going through an illness, etc.

  1. this is a great tip!
On Sat. night I’ll be layering all the ingredients for my stew into the crock and placing in frig – ready to start up early Sunday morning. I’ll also fill a bag and pop that in the freezer for later in the month. Thank you for sharing – stopping by from WFMW.

    • Yes, it really is crazy not to make a double batch anytime you do a crock pot recipe – takes no more time and creates no more mess! Glad it helped you out.
